Who We Are

We are a trusted source of content that promotes educational equity, delights its audiences, and inspires everyone to engage with the world around them.
Our Mission

Inspiring Possibility

"GBH enriches people's lives through programs and services that educate, inspire, and entertain, fostering citizenship and culture, the joy of learning, and the power of diverse perspectives."

That mission continually drives us to develop robust programs and resources for the public.

We’re supporting vulnerable learners through K-12 initiatives that inspire curiosity and creative thinking. We're a trusted news organization that is driven by facts rather than factions. We're promoting science literacy so that people can make informed decisions about our changing world. We're championing the arts and giving the public access to both the greatest performers and emerging talent. And we're constantly innovating to ensure that our services are available and relevant to all.

Serving the public interest drives everything that we do, and every commitment that we make is to promote knowledge so that everyone can appreciate and engage with the world around them.

GBH makes a commitment to:
  • Foster an informed and active citizenry
  • Make knowledge and the creative life of the arts, sciences, and humanities available to the widest possible public
  • Reflect the diversity of our audience, inviting a sense of inclusion and a better understanding of each other
  • Improve, for all people, access to public media
  • Be a trusted partner to parents and educators, providing programs and services that promote the healthy development of children
  • Serve the individual not just as a spectator but as a participant, able and willing to learn new skills through our programs and services

GBH has been committed to all audiences for more than 65 years, telling untold stories and serving the underserved in ways unmatched by any media organization. As a leader in public media, we live our mission to expand civic engagement, thoughtful discourse, and the knowledge we all need to embrace and shape the future.

Enriching lives through learning

At GBH, we believe that all citizens deserve access to knowledge. A strong educational foundation helps all of us make informed decisions and engage with our communities, which is why we've spent decades creating rich and varied avenues for lifelong learning that everyone can access.

We aim to forge connections through the stories we tell, because when people have access to a fuller story about their world, they can approach the future with clear eyes and open hearts.

Our Awards

GBH has been recognized with hundreds of honors over the years — Emmys, Peabodys, duPont-Columbia Awards, even two Academy Awards and a special Peabody citing WGBH’s 50 years of service to the community, the nation, and the world. Our most recent honors are a testament to your tremendous support. Take a bow; we couldn't do it without you!

The full story needs a full team

Knowledge belongs to everyone, and we make sure that all citizens have access to it. For decades, GBH has been filling knowledge gaps in our society and fostering a love of learning.

But we aren’t doing it alone.

By partnering with local and national organizations, we provide our audiences with direct access to the stories that enrich their world. Our contributions to NPR, PBS, and PRI bring award-winning journalism to the widest possible audience, while our partnerships with NECIR and the GroundTruth Project allow us to capture the stories that matter to local communities. These partnerships ensure that no matter where the story is, we have the collective knowledge and passion to bring it to our audiences in its fullest form.

Crossing the Divide fellow Rachel Cramer reports in the field.
